Gen Crua Chan Altamira
*93 Points – Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, August 2015* Gen del Alma is an exciting family project of Gerardo Michelini (Zorzal winery), and his wife, the winemaker Andrea Mufatto. The first result was the 91 Parker Point ‘Gene’ Malbec/Cabernet/Franc blend, followed in the 2013 vintage by ‘Otra Piel’, a Cabernet Franc-based blend which soon caught the attention of Decanter magazine who betowed an ‘Outstanding’ rating with Patricio Tapia commenting «one of the best reds I have ever tasted from Argentina.» The latest 2015 Ji Ji Ji has just arrived from Argentina, which follows the 2014 we featured in July – and which sold out within a few hours after being awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Decanter magazine! This exciting addition to the range is 100% Malbec from the newly defined appellation of Altamira, a zone with chalky soils within the Valle de Uco. A combination of cement amphora and oak barriques are used during fermentation, producing a wonderfully defined and mineral Malbec which once again showcases the Michelini brothers talents. ‘It’s uncommon to find wines from the Michelini brothers made with grapes outside of Gualtallary, so I was curious to taste the 2014 Crua Chan Altamira, which is produced from the newly defined Altamira appellation, a chalky zone of Valle de Uco. It’s pure Malbec fermented in cement amphora with 30% whole clusters and malolactic fermentation carried out in used 500-liter oak barriques. The label shows a sword and the wine is sharp and straight as that sword! This is a serious, mineral Malbec with concentration and freshness to be drunk now or aged in bottle. 3,500 bottles produced.’ 93 Points – Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, August 2015
